As the year winds down, I pray that we are seeking more of God and less of ourselves.  I realize and recognize that during the course of this year I have not always been holy.  There have been times when I have been unholy, saying and doing the wrong thing. I pray earnestly that not only will God forgive me, but according to His Word He will give me the desires of my heart.  My heart is placed in a position that I want God to be at the very core of my heart.  Being holy is more than simply saying it, wearing sackcloth, or carrying a large Bible; but rather it flows from our inner being and is seen in how we live and act.  Holiness is an action word like faith.  Unfortunately, many believers feel that holiness is relegated to a church or denomination, but God calls and expects us to be holy. 1 Peter 1:16 speaks about holiness, which reads in this manner:

“For the Scriptures say, ‘You must be holy because I am holy.’”

Notice it says it is written.  It is a summons to holy living and demands more than a ritual or outward response, but rather it is something inward.  We know that God is holy and we serve a Holy God and out of obedience to Him, we are obligated to live holy lives.  We cannot live holy lives apart from Him. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. However, with Him we can do all things.   The many motivational and self-help programs are good but they have limits just as we have limits.   However, when we put our faith and trust in God, as He is holy, we can be holy.  I share with you my confession and desire and that you will share with God your imperfections and your desire to be holy.  Let this desire to be holy, be your resolution in the year 2020.  Perhaps, you are saying you are already holy; then try to look at those areas in your life that do not reflect holiness and work on them one at a time
