KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
As a people of God, there is no way we can allow anger to overtake us. I would argue strongly that far too many believers have a problem with their temper. In a second, they can have a temper tantrum and say things that are hurtful to God and to God’s people. It is a sad commentary that many families today are torn apart as a result of anger. Friendships dissolve and to make matters worse, even in the House of God, words have been said that have caused pain to others. The Bible has much to say about the tongue and the damage it causes when we are filled with anger and rage. Today’s scripture reference is Psalm 37:8.
“Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper – it only leads to harm.”
In this moving passage of scripture, the psalmist speaks clearly about the need to let go of anger. He begins this chapter by simply saying do not worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. The Lord will take care of that. He goes on to say, “Commit everything to the Lord. Trust Him and He will help you.” It is amazing that sometimes we read the book of Psalms and fail to see the transparency of the psalmists. God will give us the strength keep from engaging in anger. We cannot do it on our own. The flesh is weak and destroys the good that we have done. Work on anger management. Discipline yourself. Control your tongue and your actions. Let God fight your battles. Remember the battle is not yours, but the Lord’s. The next time you feel anger raging within you, be still and know that He is God.
