In 2008, members of Bethlehem Baptist Church joined Chariots of Hope (a local non-profit) to visit orphanages in Kenya as part of an outreach effort. While in Kisumu, Kenya God opened our eyes to the Ogada Children’s Home. The moment we met the then 40 children and supporting staff, God allowed our Spirits to connect with them in such a powerful way. Bethlehem Baptist was moved to create a relationship with the Ogada Children’s home in Kisumu, Kenya.

Since then our involvement through financial support has grown tremendously. Support from BBC members fully provides for school fees, shelter, food and clothing for more than 100 children and staff. Bethlehem has assisted in providing cows, chickens, fruits and vegetables that not only provide nutritious meals but also help create a means for a self sustaining eco system at the Children’s Home.

Why do we support missions?

image004In Matthew 28:19-20, the Lord instructs his disciples to:

19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Again, in Mark 16:15

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation

image006The word of God commands us to GO and spread the gospel to every human being that we can possibly reach. We thank God for allowing us to meet and fellowship with the Ogada Children’s Home in Kisumu, Kenya. Just as our early church leaders took the gospel to Samaria and Judea, we are called to take the gospel to the uttermost part of the world (Acts 1:8) and God led us to Kisumu, Kenya!!!
