DAILY DEVOTION

God’s Discipline

Hebrews 13:7 (NIV)

In the family of God there is a need for discipline and order. Far too many believers fail to take note that we serve a God who desires that there be order among us and that we are aware that there are consequences for not following His instructions. As I write this devotion I’m relying on the Holy Spirit to guide my thoughts.  I must always be mindful of the awesome responsibility God has given me to Shepherd His people and be full of love and compassion with a humble spirit. God disciplines all of us and He speaks about the responsibility over those who govern and lead us.  In Hebrews 13:7-8 we read these words:

"Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever"

The writer tells us to remember the leaders who spoke the word of God. While they had much to offer we must keep our eyes on Jesus Christ, a timeless model of our Christian faith. In other words, don’t be misguided by false doctrines.  There are consequences for straying from the Word and for not following God’s teaching. He disciplines His people out of His great love for them.  May you be strengthened today by the Word that convinces us, disciplines us, challenges us and inspires us.
